Local Blind College Student to Run St. Jude 26-Mile Marathon
MEMPHIS, TN – On Saturday, December 7, Anthony Bonetti, a legally-blind student who is studying biblical counseling at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Cordova, TN, will run the 2019 26-mile St. Jude Marathon. With the assistance of college president, Dr. Michael Spradlin, Bonetti, who is very athletic but has never run a marathon, will join the Memphis community in its support of the children and families at St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
When asked how they’d like their participation to inspire others, Bonetti remarked, “For those who have children in need of medical treatment, I want you to know there are community members who care and who are actively supporting you and parents like you. Patients should know they are not just patients; they are supporting research and care for others like them. Finally, anyone with a handicap can support this cause. Although I am completely blind, God has given me the ability to participate in this race by sending a wonderful guide to race with me.”
Dr. Spradlin added that St. Jude has inspired him and Bonetti through “the incredibly generous care that the hospital provides and the bravery of the children and their families in very difficult circumstances.”
Bonetti and Dr. Spradlin will begin their race at the scheduled time of 8:00 a.m.
