Is Seminary Online a Good Option for Me?
Online seminary courses and degrees have made theological education accessible to countless students who might not otherwise be able to relocate nearby or commute to a seminary school. Self-paced and available 24/7, online courses also make scheduling more flexible and convenient, adapting to the individual student’s lifestyle and ongoing commitments. A wide range of programs and courses are readily available, offering students more options and a more tailored learning experience. These benefits and more may mean that seminary online is an attractive option for you.
Does Mid-America offer seminary online?
Yes, Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary offers online courses and fully online theology degrees. You can take one course or an entire degree—100% online, 100% accredited, and 100% Mid-America. All associates, bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees are available online at Mid-America. You not only get access to a world-class education—anytime, anywhere—you’re also connected with Mid-America faculty who are committed to being involved in students’ lives. And you’re networked into the student community, a family you take with you as you explore your future.
Online courses at Mid-America involve a variety of methodologies. Instruction may include video, PowerPoint, text instruction, and independent tasks such as research projects and papers. Some courses include hyperlinked projects, such as preaching videos, historical journals, biblical studies, and geographical mapping. Each class includes interaction through methods, such as chat rooms, forums, threads, email, and video conferencing. Quizzes, assignments, and tests may also be conducted through the online course management system. Most online course content is asynchronous, which means that you access the materials when it fits best with your schedule.
Students and professors are able to interact through the various features of online courses. Sample classes are available to guests. Admission and enrollment occurs through the normal registration process.
How does the seminary online experience differ from the residential education experience?
Mid-America strives to ensure that the online educational experience provides the same high quality academic excellence as the on-campus experience. Online courses and degrees are fully accredited, and courses are taught by the same fully credentialed professors who teach on campus.
What’s more, we seek to emulate the on-campus experience that takes place outside the classroom as well by integrating interactive experiences with fellow students and the faculty. In addition, online students have the same requirements with regard to Mid-America’s unique Practical Missions program, which prepares students for ministry by providing hands-on witnessing and ministry experience. Just like on-campus students, online students fulfill their Practical Missions assignments and report them online to the seminary family so others can share the experiences.
Online students also have online access to Mid-America’s chapel services on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to other special events, such as our annual Founders’ Days events and other special conferences and messages. This online access includes both live streamed and archived content. All these resources are designed to keep the online student connected to the seminary family and the rich environment of theological study that surrounds Mid-America.
