“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord (Jeremiah 29:11). At Mid-America, our philosophy on academic advising centers around our students’ success as they strive to follow God’s plan for their lives. Navigating the academic world can be challenging whether entering college right after high school, returning after years away from academics, pursuing a second degree, or simply choosing a class schedule that maximizes time available. The Registrar’s office seeks to make this process as smooth and efficient as possible.
Communication among students, faculty, and advisors is imperative as we strive to offer consistency in our guidance. Therefore, the Registrar’s Office serves as a facilitator between students and advisors. Although students are our primary focus, advising begins with the faculty advisor. Our office ensures that advisors have training as well as up-to-date information on degrees, class offerings, transfer credits, and policies that may affect the process. We also serve as a resource for advisors when questions or special circumstances arise.
The Registrar’s office offers encouragement, advocacy, and information for students as well. We want them to know that we are committed to their success, and we demonstrate that commitment with timely responses to questions and resolution of problems, follow-through on needed actions, and availability of time and resources to meet needs. We approach these tasks with integrity for the degree, support for the institution, and compassion for the students, believing that good advising is key to academic success.
